Ahoy Mateys!

Ahoy Mateys!

by Katie Logemann

After immersing ourselves into Stevenson’s Treasure Island, Middle School Literature and Writing explored the world of historical piracy, each choosing a pirate or privateer to focus his/her research. A factual report on the chosen pirate then set the platform for a fictional sea log. Students embedded the important events of each pirate into a journal of a believable character, while also painting a detailed scene of the sounds, smells, and jargon of the pirate life. In efforts of increasing authenticity, many students presented their final product in a form appropriate their pirate muses.
