Fun in Simple Science

We have been very busy in Simple Science this spring!  If you stopped by, you may find us tackling the periodic table, using this song, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-oko3JAxeI, creating Carbon Dioxide molecules with cookies and M&Ms, singing the steps of the scientific method {https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoyFVnOLUWE}, creating rockets, molding magnetic slime, and engineering containers to keep an egg safe from a 10 foot drop!  All the while attempting to document our journey in a Lap Book.  Workshop students are inquisitive and imaginative, and this makes for marvelous budding scientists!

It has been a joy to watch students work together, using the steps of the scientific method, to think of solutions to scientific problems and solve them.  I think I surprised my students when one of the contraptions carrying an egg for the drop failed.  They thought I might be disappointed, but instead I replied, "This is great!", eliciting a few giggles from the group. "This gives us an opportunity to figure out why the egg broke, and re-engineer the contraption to keep it safe!" We did reconfigure that egg drop device, it did keep the egg safe, and the cheer that went up in the room melted my heart.   One student replied,"  You are the only teacher I have that gets excited when we make a mess, or make mistakes!"  I just smiled.  Welcome to the world of science kids.  Welcome to Simple Science.
