Servathon

What is the Servathon? Our annual scholarship fundraiser! Students raise money in teams for our scholarship fund, and then participate in a “Day of Service” at Camp Tricklin’ Falls in East Kingston, NH. There we help them clean and prep their facilities to get ready for hundreds of campers, many from low-income families, to arrive in June. This will be our fifth year working with our friends at the “Y”, and we are especially excited because our volunteering means that they can divert hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars to their own financial aid fund for low-income kids to attend camp. In this way, we hope that the “serve” in Servathon will assist two communities:

  1. students within our own learning community who need some level of financial assistance to continue homeschooling with New Hope’s help, and

  2. young people who will benefit from diverted YMCA camp cleanup funds.

For the last several years we’ve raised between $30,000 and $40,000 annually which provided financial aid for lots of New Hope families, and we hope to raise that much again this year. Practically speaking, we ask our full-year students (workshop and short course students optional) to do three things:

  1. compile a list of potential donors,

  2. personalize letters (written and given to students by the office), submit them to the office for mailing, and

  3. follow up with them.
